Mount Everest also known as Sagarmatha in Nepalese language is the highest mountain in the world. Standing at 8848 m (29,029 ft) its summit lies at the highest altitude above sea level. The Mount Everest was created by the action of Indian tectonic plate colliding with the Eurasian tectonic plate, a process that began 50 million years ago. And throughout these years Mount Everest has managed to attract millions of people and some interesting facts to tell which I shall be sharing with you in this post today.

- The first interesting fact about the Mount Everest is that it’s not the tallest mountain in the world but the highest. This has been confused by a lot of people. The tallest mountain is Mauna Kea, located in Hawaii, USA. Even though it peaks just 4205 m (13,796 ft) above sea level, but it’s base actually lies below sea level. So, if you were to measure from the submarine base of the mountain to the top, then its height is 10,205 m (33,480 ft)
- There is a region in Mount Everest also known as Death Zone. The name death zone was given by an Italian Mountaineer named Reinhold Messner. This region is above 8000 m and it is called death zone because of lack of oxygen, coldness, and exhaustion for climbers. The air at that region is 1/3 dense and its quite steep to climb. So, if you are considering on climbing Mount Everest then you might want to think about that.
- The climate at Mount Everest is very harsh. It is caped with snow and ice all year round and it takes 10 weeks to climb the Everest. Since this majestic mountain is in the bucket list of many adventurers, it also cost you 30,000 USD to climb this mountain.
- While I am writing this article the Mount Everest is growing a little taller. The Himalayans are being formed by uplift of the Eurasian plate by the Indian plate sliding underneath and those movement in the plates causes Mount Everest to rise 4 mm (0.2”) a year and 40 cm per century. So, if you think its only human that grows taller, then think again!
- This particular trivia is for all those lovely couple who dream of getting married in an interesting way, cause these lovely couple named Moni Mule Pati and Pem Dorjee Sherpa from Nepal decided to get married on Summit. Also, they kept their plan a secret from other climbers until they reached the top.
- Since Everest is exhilarating and once in a lifetime adventure, it’s also very challenging to climb. Its believed that Everest has more than 200 dead bodies. Even though the numbers aren’t exactly known, the dead bodies are remaining as a grave reminder for those who follow.
