Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality.
Now I’ll let your brain do the rest of the work. And I am pretty sure with your brain and all your heart you will sing this song. Honestly this is the catchiest song ever made. It contains elements of fantasy, opera, great harmonies and instrumental portions of the music. Forty something years later everyone knows the words and likes to enthusiastically sing along. But did you know the work that was put into to make this song happen? The perception and standards of what a song should be at that era of music. The technologies at that period of time and the challenges that the band had to face. I am here to talk about all that and this is my personal favorite song.
The vocals of Fredy Mercury and leaving the lyrics aside, it is musically so much richer than most of the pop song you can ever think of. Beside being a commercial success, it is also a great masterpiece of production and engineering. In the year 1975, each vocal line was laid individually and bounced down onto the one before. The recording system was a 24 track one, which literally means there were 24 available tracks to record everything. The finished piece contains around 180 overdubs. It was a complex record to make and took around 70 hours to record this 5 minute and 55 second piece.
Beside being one of the coolest song, it is also one of the most intricate and complex rock songs ever written. Like seriously the lyrics are so weird and absurd that no one will ever understand the meaning of the song, and that itself makes it unforgettable. Also the way the song starts where it goes in a very slow rhythm and suddenly changes into something very energetic that makes you want to jump and go crazy. Like just listen to it for the 6 minutes and not even a single minute will make you feel bored and that to me is genius.
Before I heard Bohemian Rhapsody or even knew about it, Hotel California by Eagles was my favorite song and it still is one of my favorite song. But ever since I found out about this six minutes masterpiece I changed my mind and it is at the number one on my list. Even the live performances of this song are amazing. If you haven’t seen the live performance or say you are new to English songs I would definitely recommend you to hear this one out and let me know how you like it. I am 99.99% sure you are going to love it.
